Vending Vandalism

The NSDA reports that vending machine vandalism and theft accounts for $100 million ever year. This includes vandalism to the vending machines and stealing money from vending machines. Eventually this is an issue every vending machine operator must deal with.

When choosing which vending machines to purchase this is an issue that you must consider. Consider the locations of your vending machines. Some areas may have more of an issue with vending machines then others. Is your vending machine secured to something?

As obvious as it may sound make sure that your vending machines are properly locked. I have seen unlocked vending machines emptied very quickly. Free samples are a great opportunity for business, but a customer walking away with a pocket full of gumballs isn't.

You can contact the National Soft Drink Association for a vending machine crime prevention kit. This includes highly visible stickers warning of vending crime as well as a vending crime prevention guide.

Unfortunately losses from crime and fraud are issues that all businesses must take into account when calculating profitability. Make sure you consider this when deciding if entering the vending machine business is right for you.
